Slew sees red in stalemate
League One play-off contenders Stevenage and Colchester cancelled each other out in a game most notable for a senseless sending-off for Boro striker Jordan Slew.
Both teams remain behind Carlisle in the race for sixth-place but the hosts will be happier with a point after having to play the whole of the second half with 10 men.
Slew fashioned a chance for himself early on when he cut inside but his shot was saved by Colchester goalkeeper Ben Williams at his near post.
Williams was soon called into action again by Scott Laird before Darius Charles fired a long-range effort over.
Kayode Odejayi then passed up a great chance to give the U's the lead when, after being put through by Steven Gillespie, he could only bend his shot wide.
Slew stupidly got himself sent off just before half-time when he lashed out at Anthony Wordsworth after being fouled by the Colchester midfielder.
Gillespie curled a shot wide for the visitors just past the hour mark but the depleted ranks of Stevenage more than held their own.
