Stevenage manager Graham Westley was frustrated by his side's failure to score against Brentford as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Robbie Simpson's first-half strike was enough for the Bees in the end, despite Stevenage creating plenty of chances to get back into the game. And Westley was left to rue Borough's wastefulness in front of goal. "We knew it was going to be tough, but we had a lot of chances," said Westley. "It's a shame we didn't manage to put any of them away. "I was pleased with the performance from the lads, we gave it everything, but we really needed to be more clinical. "Their keeper had made some good saves, but I think we at least deserved a goal for the way we played. "Brentford didn't have a great deal of chances, which is testament to how well we defended. But you've got to take your chances, it's as simple as that. They've got a goal and managed to hold on to that lead for the rest of the match."
