Boro boosted by quintet
Stevenage manager Graham Westley could call upon as many as five debutants against Oldham.
Sam Wedgbury, Luke Jones, Simon Heslop, Jimmy Smith and Oumare Tounkara arrived at Broadhall Way during the summer and are all available for selection.
With no reported injuries, Westley should have a full squad to pick from but will not be able to call upon Patrick Agyemang, Anthony Grant and Mark Roberts as they all departed during the close-season.
The two teams meet almost a year on from when Lucas Atkins' penalty was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Boro at Boundary Park.
Summer signing James Dayton may have to wait for his Oldham debut as he struggles with a knock.
The former Kilmarnock winger sustained the problem in training and will be assessed before the trip. Dayton's injury aside, Latics' only other missing player is Carl Winchester after the defender suffered a knee injury in pre-season.
The Football League's youngest boss Lee Johnson is likely to hand striker Adam Rooney a start following his arrival on a free transfer on Thursday. There are no concerns over Rooney's fitness given he has been training with Oldham for some time.
Johnson has also brought forward Charlie MacDonald, midfielder Anton Rodgers and Latvian centre-back Edijs Joksts to Boundary Park this summer and all will be hoping to make their bows.
